It is located at the highest point of the head, roughly in the center of the skull or floating directly above it. In classical Indian systems, it is often described as residing just outside the physical body.
Connection and Symbolism Energetically, this chakra is associated with the midbrain, the pineal gland, the cerebral cortex, and the entire organism. It stands for spirituality, enlightenment, self-realization, connection with the universe, high states of consciousness, oneness, and divinity. The basic symbol is often depicted as a lotus. While Sahasrara implies 1000 petals (representing the 50 Sanskrit letters and their permutations), it is often graphically represented—as in our wall decor—with multiple layers of petals to symbolize this complexity. Its associated color is violet, sometimes transitioning to white or gold.
