The delicate spring flower Pulsatilla, also known as Pasque Flower or Small Pasque Flower (Pulsatilla pratensis), is well known in homeopathy and herbal folklore. It is one of the most important remedies for women’s health: helping with luteal phase weakness, PMS, irregular cycles, bladder issues, mastitis, menopausal symptoms, and even easing childbirth. It is also used as a gentle remedy for rheumatism, digestive complaints, venous weakness, childhood illnesses, and emotional imbalance.

Historically, Pulsatilla was revered by many cultures. In ancient herbal traditions—from Hippocrates to Celtic and Germanic wisdom—it was seen as a quintessential women’s plant, known under names such as Mother Flower, Mother Herb, or Bear Flower. It was used for its emmenagogic, antispasmodic, mucolytic, nerve-strengthening, and antimicrobial qualities.

Fresh Pulsatilla is protected and toxic, containing protoanemonin, which can irritate skin and mucous membranes. This is why today it is mainly used in homeopathic preparations.

The soft, silvery hairs surrounding the plant act as natural protection against cold and dehydration. In the Doctrine of Signatures, these shimmering hairs are associated with the Moon, intuition, sensitivity, and emotional depth. Pulsatilla is often recommended for people who are sensitive, easily chilled, gentle, and seeking comfort or reassurance. When you see this velvety, tender plant, you instinctively feel drawn to touch it—or, like in my case, to sit beside it and meditate in its protective presence.

During the photoshoot, a rainbow-colored glow appeared next to me in several images. I still do not know exactly why, but perhaps a nature spirit wished to reveal itself.

Pulsatilla is a deeply feminine healing plant. Its petals, often arranged in symmetrical formations, naturally create mandala-like structures.
