Bowl of Hygieia as Window Film – the classic healing symbol
This window film design shows the Bowl of Hygieia, one of the oldest and most important symbols of the healing arts.
In Greek mythology, Hygieia is the goddess of health, and her name literally means “health.” The modern word hygiene is derived from her name.
She is traditionally depicted with a serpent drinking from a bowl — a symbol of remedy, purity, vital energy and holistic health.
In many cultures, the snake represents wisdom, renewal and healing, as it sheds its old skin and appears to renew itself. In pharmaceutical tradition, the Bowl of Hygieia symbolizes the healing substance itself and has been a recognized emblem of pharmacy since the 1950s.
Connection to Asclepius and the Rod of Asclepius
Hygieia is the daughter of Asclepius, the god of healing. Sacred serpents were said to live in his sanctuaries and were associated with healing power.
Asclepius is depicted with the well-known Rod of Asclepius — a snake coiled around a staff. This staff symbolizes the connection between heaven and earth as well as the power of healing.
Even though this design shows the Bowl of Hygieia and not the Rod of Asclepius, both symbols are historically and symbolically closely connected. For this reason, they are still used today as signs for medical, therapeutic and naturopathic professions.
Inspired by Samuel Hahnemann
The design of this window film is inspired by a historical memorial stone dedicated to the German physician Samuel Hahnemann (1755–1843), the founder of homeopathy.
On such depictions, the Bowl of Hygieia with a serpent can often be seen, sometimes accompanied by a floating hexagram above the serpent’s head. This six-pointed star is an ancient symbol of order, clarity and protection and is also associated with alchemy.
The elegant frosted design provides privacy while still allowing natural light to enter. When the sunlight touches the film, it creates a soft shimmering effect that enhances a calm, professional and healing atmosphere.
Information about the film
This matte special PVC film in silver-grey and gold creates a beautiful frosted or icy effect on glass surfaces. The adhesive film has a reduced surface gloss and is especially suitable for decorating glass, glass doors, windows, shop windows and mirrors. It is self-adhesive, light-transmitting, UV-resistant and washable. The window film can be used as glass decoration and/or as a privacy film.
Depending on the motif, wet application or dry installation can be used. For larger continuous surfaces, wet application is recommended and should ideally be carried out at temperatures above 18°C.
Information about colour
The colour reproduction of the product images serves as a non-binding guide. Gold and silver are not actual colours; they appear as colour gradients depending on the incidence of light. For this reason, it is difficult to reproduce these tones accurately in digital images. As the film is slightly translucent, the gold and silver tones may appear lighter or darker depending on the lighting conditions. We therefore recommend testing the colours in real life using our test samples before purchasing.
