St. John’s Wort (Hypericum perforatum) usually blooms precisely at the summer solstice and on St. John’s Day along paths and in meadows. Well-known active compounds include hyperforin, the red pigment hypericin, flavonoids, biflavonoids, catechin tannins, and essential oils (visible as black oil glands on flowers and leaves). High-dose “shock therapy” with the herb is said to relieve migraines. As early as Paracelsus, St. John’s Wort was recognized for its antidepressant effects. Today we know that hyperforin inhibits the reuptake of neurotransmitters, and in combination with hypericin and flavonoids, contributes to mood-lifting and nerve-calming effects, making it helpful for moderate depression and nervous tension.
Hyperforin also promotes the regeneration of the upper skin layers. St. John’s Wort oil (Red Oil) can be used for muscle pain, nerve pain (neuralgia), sprains, lumbago (Maria Treben), minor injuries, sunburn, bruises, ulcers, eczema, perineal care during pregnancy, vulvodynia, radiation dermatitis, sciatica, scar care, rheumatic complaints, and minor burns. The Freiburg University Skin Clinic recommends preparing Red Oil in the dark, as the wound-healing and antibacterial hyperforin is light-sensitive.
Dicotyledonous plants often have five-petaled flowers arranged like a pentagram. This ancient protective symbol embodies the magic of the golden ratio, represents perfect harmony, and reflects the five elements. Each plant resonates in a specific way with sunlight. This powerful medicinal herb reaches its peak energy when the sun is at its highest point in the year, glowing as yellow as its blossoms. Even Walt Disney created an educational film in 1957 featuring Donald Duck, explaining pentagrams and the golden ratio, humorously showing where the five-pointed star appears in nature and how humans have applied this mathematical formula in architecture.
According to neurobiological studies, green wall decor can activate the “rest nerve” through the biophilia effect, slow the heartbeat, reduce blood pressure, accelerate recovery after surgery, dilate blood vessels, and lower stress hormones such as adrenaline, noradrenaline, and cortisol. It also supports creativity, free thinking, imagination, problem-solving, concentration, and social cohesion.
This mystical medicinal plant wall art brings healing, energy, harmony, calmness, Feng Shui balance, and relaxation to your spaces. It makes a wonderful gift for nature lovers, herbalists, therapists, phytotherapists, and homeopaths.
